update on carb, right got a couple of 2mm/4mm hss drill bits and drilled out a hole in the broken stud/bolt.then inserted/screwed a stud extractor in and started to turn got a good bite, thought hear we go this will just extract the stud no problem then snap.the friggin stud extractor snapped in the hole  so i was a bit cheesed off to say the least.anyway managed to drill it out and the rest of the stud but i was a bit concerned about drilling to deep to get it out but there wasnt anything to worry about as there seems to be a 3 to 4mm void between the stud and carb base, well there was on mine so hope this helps if anyone has the same problem.cheers dave :ok

Bit late now but If it helps anybody else the depth you can drill to is 12mm for the pancake inlet manufold M5 Studs.

As you say there is a big void underneath with origional studs but many have had longer studs fitted for LPG so they may be threaded in deeper.

Well done indeed :ok

The only time I had to remove the remains of a broken stud extractor it was a RIGHT pain. I wonder why they are so brittle ?
