I can't hear any noise from the air filter - the exhaust is too loud!!! I should have asked for a quieter box. There shouldn't be any restrictions on the engine breathing anyway.
Still got to finish welding the brackets onto the non silencing silencer as it is on temporary bands at present. Wire brush has left rust streaks on the stainless also. What a convoluted pipe to weld up!
Should have upgraded it ages ago but wanted to use the CS to the end of it's life.
peteabbott wrote:Yes, do you know what........bit of a silver haired confession.........I had the van for a few months during which time I thought the cold start lever was something to do with the cab ventilation !!! Seriously though the cold start did work on the old KY but had little or no effect on the 1Y. Never got to the bottom of the reason for this as it seems others on here have had the same problem. The only difference was that the original cold start on the donor 1Y was solenoid operated and now cable so I wondered if the cold start lever was only happy in one position i.e. on or off and not variable as with the cable.
Are you considering a second timed relay to come in when the engine is hot ? ? If so how would that work with the already fitted timed relay, or have I got the wrong end of the stick ?
AHHH ! Sorry, E D I T, E D I T, Timed relay for the cold start, I get it now (always RTFM) Yes I see, then my theory with there being a certain position for the cold start to work makes sense. Probably if I had used the solenoid and not changed it for cable and added a timed relay I think it makes perfectly good sense and would probably have worked.
I have reverted to cable and it is variable as you can change the engine speed over the range with the cable on mine.
I've just done the conversion from 1.6d to 1.9 1y,
the only problem I'm having is the alternator belt,
To begin with I tried the 1.6 water pump a and alternator
But it wouldn't align up so after using the origional
1.9 stuff, I realised the belts I've tried don't fit, and now
I realise why, the belts have been to no or too small, but
Ain't fitting due to not having the power steering pump fitted,
I tried the 923 tooth belt and the 1054 I think it needs like a 930-940
What has everyone else used?
You have to use your original alternator bracket to use original alternator and water pump, with that I am using a 10 x 888 belt. Which bit wouldn't line up?
Measure round your pulleys to get the size belt you need - don't guess!!
I have just stuck a high resistance one, a couple of K I think, so that my glow plugs come on for maximum time every time hot or cold. I don't know why but these engines do seem to need glow plugs when hot as well as cold.
Thanks for the reply. Is that into the sensor on the back of the head? Blue/white wire? I had a problem that the glow plug light took over 40 seconds to go out so I bought a new sensor (black with green stripe) and it goes out after 7 secs as normal now but takes a good ten seconds of winding over to start when hot.
