So I've SORNed the van and its time to get the jobs done I didn't want to do when it was in use. First up is a change of the water pump as its got a bit of play in the bearings.
To do the job I have to drain all the coolant .... Any Ideas where to start? and can I save the coolant for re use after I've changed the pump? I'll also be swapping a heater hose whist I'm at it so will need to drain the whole thing I guess.
Undo lowest hose you can find and use a hose to flush through as much as you can from wherever you can. Best advice you'll get I think. Its not easy to clean completely.

My pump has had a bit of play in it for the last couple of years. Bought a quality product of BW and have stored it in the van ever since. Just waiting for the degree of play to increase before changing it!!! Can't rush theses things
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?
Problem is, when they DO go, they can go in an instant. Ask me how I know. Took me over a week to get back on the road. That was the primary reason on going into so much detail in the WIKI as it can be a pig of a job needing tools most people won't have.
On draining, I emptied the rusty coolant (from a previous life), filled up with tap water and a flushing agent then took it for a 20 mile run and then flushed through yet again before draining, pouring in 8 litres neat antifreeze and then topping up with water. It soon mixes itself. I actually replaced expansion bottle as it was impossible to clean and I wanted to be able to see levels properly, though thats not essential.

I know I know, I must at least have a look at all fixings and see if they're corroded or not.
A pump went catastrophically on my Astra van. I was pulling onto a t-junction and the engine just stopped. Admittedly it had been squeaking for a week but I was waiting for a dry weekend.

Well got the pump changed!! not so much hard as extremely fiddly why the bolts for the inlet and outlet are set at such ridiculously inaccessible angles is beyond me! any how new pump on and the new heater tube in place so not a bad days work me thinks
Couple the hose up and big bleeding session next and hopefully job done
