Hi All,
I've been using a calor gas tank stuffed in the cupboard under the sink to fuel the hob in my 89 westy joker. I would like to get the underslung lpg tank working so I need to connect the point beneath the sink to the main 8mm pipes. See pics. My problem is I have never worked with gas before, and don't know the size of connections etc but I'm sure this task isn't difficult. (I only want to check it works first before I make a permanent connection). Does anyone know what connection I need to join a flexible hose to this point beneath the sink? I imagine the answer will be something like - male 14 mm to flexible hose!!)
Anyone know about these thing?
chris

THis looks rather rusty and not like the fittings you get now adays. How does the tank fill up, I reckon I would get the whole thing out and inspect it and possibly fit a new set of fittings if it is possible. Or preferrably get a nice new shiny tank!! Usually you would have a valve inside the tank that cuts off at 80% when filling and the gas take off would be at the top?

Re: Gas Tank connector on the floor beneath the sink
Appreciate your response 123. The tank is OK. As most people with an under slung LPG tank (original westy) the output pipe travels about a foot then enters the van underneath and pops up under the sink as in the picture. All I need to do is connect it up to the existing pipework. I have tested the tank by running a hose from the outside connector of the tank (for BBQ), through the side window and connected it to the other hose where it normally connects onto the gas bottle (the one you see in the 2nd picture). This is all working OK and the cooker hob works much better than off the gas bottle (50bar instead of 36(?) bar). Of course it all needs a good service and when I have got it actually working ok I will get to work following the excellent brickyard blog:

But in the meantime can anyone suggest a connector?

Re: Gas Tank connector on the floor beneath the sink
is that bit of brass just plugging it up at present? If so I reckon you need some 8 mm copper tube and the correct fitting for your thread, it looks metric but difficult to tell, mine had a 15mm fitting on it. Then use a nice gas olive probably a standard one preferrably copper not brass. If you want to be dead sure some people use the smallest wipe if gas sealing compound on the threads but you shouldn't need it. The other end onto the gas manifold or appliance will probably be the same fittings. Ebay is as good a place as any.

Its the bit of brass which is confusing me too! I can't see any outlet hole in it. You think it might be a plug. I didn't think of that. I have found the 'connecting flange' itself on Gunzl: see photo. It is only 7 euro but 28 euro with delivery. I'm still hesitating about sending off for one but I think that's the only way Thanks for the info on 15 mm. I can buy a 15 mm fitting first and try that. Thanks for comments

Interesting reply from gunzl in response to 'what kind of fitting do I need to attach to this connector':
Dear Mr. Owen,
There's no fitting needed, just 8mm gas pipe will do for both end. In this Connecting Flange 333000051, there is everything you need for connecting the pipe with the connecting flange.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Kind regards
Lisa Lin
Does this mean I should unscrew the cap (as shown in my pic under the sink) and then attach an 8mm pipe with an olive and perhaps this pushes the brass section down this releasing the gas??
??

It was indeed a plug. A little bit of pulling and it came away. Easy Peasy
