Camper stood for 3 years (what precautions to take)

Post by gollfy »

Hi all,
My camper has been stood for 3 years not started:(

Other than fresh petrol, what else can I do before turning over.

I have the plugs out now and was going to shoot some wd40 in and turn over, is this advisable?

Thanks all for your advise

Dave

Spraying in some wd40 won't hurt, then put some engine oil in the the plug holes, leave the plugs out and see if the engine can be turned with a spanner. If OK use the starter motor with the plugs out until you get oil pressure. Then put plugs back and try to start it.

Is there any oil in the engine?

WD 40 is not a lubricant it a Water Dispersant, so I wouldn't do that

But yes, plugs out, a squirt of engine oil in the cylinders and turn the engine over by hand 5-6 times, rock the crank backwards and forwards to start with
Then crank it with flushing oil in
put fresh in and crank it again till the oil light goes out
