Upper Control Arm nut came off, what to do?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Upper Control Arm nut came off, what to do?

Post by juanbrein »

So the Upper Control Arm nut came off on Sunday. I heard a noise on the suspention and stopped straigh away. I called the AA, they took th wheel off, put the bolt in place (one side of the arm was on the air) and put a random nut on the other end. I'm basically talking about this bolt:

is the one on the upper arm, that attach it to the

I was very the bolt was only half way off, if it would have been completely off I don't want to imagine the consequences.

So now time to put a proper fix in place... I'll take it to my local garage as I think is quite simiple work to do but want to make sure is done properly. Do I need to buy a specific nut for the other side or a generic one would do? Do I have to go through balance and align wheels? The van is running perfectly now, I notice no difference since before.

Thanks in advance

Juan

Camber will certainly need resetting. Wheel should be perfectly vertical at rest as stock. The bolt can seize in there. If the nut has actually fallen off as you say, unless it was already seized and the original adjustment maintained, the inside of your tyre will be wearing faster than the rest now as once unsecured, the wheel will tend to sit out further at the bottom.
