2L CU fuel pump? Electrifying?
My mechanical pump has died on my 2litre CU engined camper, replacements are not available, so although I run LPG most of the time, I still need to get this sorted. Heritage do a kit to convert to electric but at £84 its a bit steep (have allready got a Syncro money pit to support) Has anyone used this kit, or an alternative cheaper fix? JK took my order for a mechanical one then made it backorder!! Might cancel order.

Hello,

Your bakelite 'fuel pump flange' needs to be in good condition..
You'll need a second gasket..
Looks like this:..

Hope this helps..
Cordialement,

Re: 2L CU fuel pump? Electrifying?
Hello, had the same happen recently on my 2l cu 1980 Devon. The old mechanical pump leaked oil and failed.
There are other posts on this forum to do with electric fuel pumps. bigherb and others helped me out and I fitted a 1.5 to 4 PSI Facet electric pump (ebay) along with a safety circuit relay (VW Heritage).
bigherb has posted some good and useful pics including the blanking plate and gasket you will need and the correct size and length bolts (from B&Q) for the blanking plate.
I made a very big mistake and bought the repro OMEGA mechanical pump which turned out to be poor quality and the actuating arm jammed up. No good, go electric.
Electric pump works well and so far no problems at all and the electric pump is self priming.
Also fitted a new filter between tank and pump.
Electric pump easy to fit, screws onto the body.
Please don't waste your money on that repro mechanical pump.

Wow is the JK one that poor? I think I will cancel order and go the electric route. Mini blanking plate/gasket and low pressure pump eh? Many thanks all.

Ive put an Omega one on from Scholfields seems good quality although today it stopped working as the centre bolt had come a little loose and it was sucking in air. Time will tell i suppose. I prefer mechanical pumps as it keeps everything simpler.

An update on my Pump, It failed after about 6months. Not quite sure how or why. Schofields refunded me so that was fine. I managed to get my old one working again but that has now died. Over the weekend im going to instal a £15 ebay facet style pump. Wired up to the blue alternator wire. Fingers crossed this will work nicely.
