Hello All....
I've just got my Westy back on the road after 3 years in 'hibernation'
It started first turn of the key when I put a battery on it (and always has) after the glowplug light has gone out ...
But when I collected it from the MOT station today it struggled to start and has continued to do so,
And I noticed that for the first time ever (since 2006) the glowplug light is failing to light up...
Any suggestions as to what the problem may be would be much appreciated

Re: JX 1.6TD NO GLOW PLUG LIGHT
No glow plug light would mean that the glow plug relay isn't working correctly. It's not likely that the big strip fuse blown, because the light would still come on in that case. The blue/white wire to the temperature sender could be shorted to earth (telling the relay that the engine is hot, so doesn't need glowplugs). The relay could be broken. There's a little printed circuit board inside which could have suffered corrosion or a broken track.
The first place to look would be in the black box inside the engine compartment. The relay and strip fuse are inside. Have a good look for loose wires, broken things and corrosion in there.
With a voltmeter, (or a 12 volt bulb with wires on it if you haven't got a meter) check at the connections to the relay. Measuring between the bodywork and the various connections, there should be no volts on the brown wire at any time. Black wire should be +12volts with ignition on. Red/black wire should be +12 volts while cranking.
Pull the blue/white wire off the temperature sender on the far end of the cylinder head. This should tell the relay that the engine is cold, and the light should come on if the relay is working at all.
There should be +12volts on the fat red wire to the glow plugs for a while when the engine is cool and the ignition is switched on.
If you do these tests and report back we might be able to give you more info.
Was the engine warm or cold when it wouldn't start after the MOT?
If you haven't got a multimeter, they are only a tenner, and well worth having.
