So rev the hell out of it with the bleed valve open?

Chances are, you're not getting the engine revs high enough to expel the air. Plonk a brick on the accelerator pedal and get that air out. Sometimes it'll work its way out overnight too.

obviously Covkid isnt suggesting leaving a brick on the accelerator pedal over night !

but he is spot on with what he says about reving it up, personally I would take it up to around 3500 rpm for a minute or so.... let it idle then try again, the level should suddenly drop when the air is expelled .

Thanks, i assume if i get a mate to watch it i should get coolant comming out of the bleed valve while doing this?

Does the coolant go through the thermostat into the pump or the other way around?

Ok so in my tierdness i didnt take into account that A. my thermostat needs to open so need to get the van up to temp and also B. That pipe is gunna be cool as it comes back from the radiator.

All in all good news. the fan came on. iv literally never heard it come on since ive had it. My temp gauge does work as it went up to just before half way and stayed there.

A lot of people (including myself) have underestimated just how many revs are needed to expel the air. I managed it on my own but you do a lot of running if you do it that way. Much easier with a buddy who can keep the tank topped up. You don't need to raise the front either. I never did and it bled fine once the revs were high enough.

Cheers! All sorted now... apart from the radiator has split ... but that is a sotry for another thread

But temp gauge goes up to where it should do (never happened before). So its a job well done i think

Now to sort out the front

I've replaced my pump recently.

Thought I'd bled the system, only to hear a gurgle of sir up front.

Bled again, but when I took her out, the top up water. Bottle was empty again.

The header tank is still full.

Anyone wish to offer any comments on what might be happening lease?
