jC Motors in Hackney (Stean St) know these vans inside out. Len (owner) is honest, transparent & friendly.
I wouldnt and dont let anyone else touch my vans.
Agree about chris cross motors. They are massively rude, dont communicate and are stupidly expensive. I think they cater for people who have no idea about mechanics and take advantage of people. They tried to fix a friends 62 beetle and said his gearbox was gone and they put in other gearbox they had lying around at a cost of £1800 (fitted). Problem still wasnt sorted so went to have a look and found clutch plate was a bit warped. He asked for gearbox to be changed back and when he went to pick it up they hadnt even bothered putting original gearbox back in. Fitted new pressure plate and he's done over 20,000 miles with original gearbox since. They tried to take him to small claims court and didnt even show up on court day!
At least beetlemania care about their work. Not super great on mechanics but their bodyshop guy is/was amazing (he's now gone solo and is based in Highbury).
Good mechanics who know these vans are hard to find in London.

Re: Mechanic In North London
I have had a review of my North London garage placed in the 'specialist' section of the Wiki mechanics section. It's calked Automerc - have a look. German specialists, long established, friendly, informative, trust-worthy. They work on new cars but their skills with older models are excellent - lot if lovely old Mercs in there most days, plus restorations and all kinds. They're on Facebook if you want to see the workshop.
They completed a top-end rebuild on my WBX this Summer, absolutely no issues since. Pink coolant was used - the blue stuff is wrong for these engines, so Chris Cross couldn't be bothered to look up the spec. Joe the mechanic at Automerc wouldn't let this happen.
These guys stand by their work and will correct any issues with their repairs. They'll show you the old parts they remove, they have never fitted an unnecessary part to my cars, only what's essential. I have even had them drive to me to check the car outside my house when I suffered an issue recently for no charge. Not cheap, but excellent.

I had a 250 charge to get an air leak on the carburettor fixed and a new fuel line fitted on my van. Guy called Joe brown at VW motor company. broke down on the way home as he didn't test 'because of no petrol'. pretty sure what he fixed wasn't even the original problem. probs a fuel pump. this guys in south london, Sidcup area. Feel completely ripped off. Wont be getting any more work done in London its just way to expensive. Feel like selling the van after a row of over priced half arsed fixes.

I know finding a decent mechanic is tough. It seems like you're in the same-ish area to me. A neighbour with (also with a T25) recommended Coach Works in Kingston - specifically a guy called Jess there. Jess used to have a T25 (now as a beast of an RV). Anyway, I took my van there 6 or so months ago to fit a new exhaust and do some welding to get it through an MOT. We spent a lot of money, but had been quoted much more elsewhere.
The garage does a lot of bodywork for some very nice classics there too, so they at least seem like they know their stuff! Saying that, he knew I just wanted the van "up and running" so didn't try and convince me to do a lot of other body work (which it could easily be argued it needs - he's not a pretty van).
Anyway, Jess is at
