Oldiebut goodie wrote:I've got one outside - no leaving door to the house open whilst working on the drive. I have a hookup lead permanently connected and just use a hookup lead to normal socket adapter for tools outside. Well worth having as you can leave the house secure whilst you are charging up the batteries in the van/car.
That was my thinking Oldie!
And thanks for sharing all the options guys.

Re: Hookup socket in the garden?
Just so I know what I am talking about when I discuss this with the electrician.
If I plumb for the hookup style socket, I guess I need a 16amp socket - not the 32amp one that looks very similar? Also, is the cable that goes to the 16amp socket the same as a cable that would go to any exterior plug? I only told the electrician I wanted an exterior plug socket when I first spoke to him.
I do have one of these already http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/cara%20van-ma ... 2a3461dbcc
so a double exterior socket like this could be an option too.

What IP rating would you recommend?
Cheers,
Tim.

Re: Hookup socket in the garden?
I have a 16A 3 pin commando (hookup) socket outside on my wall for plugging my camper into. I also have an normal extension lead with a 16A commando plug on it for plugging in my lawnmower and such. Similar to this,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK-16A-COMMAN ... 33969f4828" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You must make sure that any external socket is 30mA rcd protected at your consumer unit or get the external socket with it built in but these can be expensive. The sparky will know anyway.
