Loud droning noise whilst driving

Post by djhammy »

Hi folks for the last few weeks I've noticed a whirring droning noise as i drive that gets more pronounced the faster i go.

Seems to be coming up front near side. I can feel something in the steering wheel.

I assumed it was a wheel bearing so got it up on the ramps and my mechanic took a look at all 4 wheels. No play all spin fine certainly nothing obvious.

I had a very loud drone noise before the gearbox was replaced 2 years ago but i could hear that coming from the rear and sounded more like a jet taking off. This is very monotonous increases with speed and in my view up the front end.

Any pointers as to where i could look please.

Many thanks Dave

Certainly sounds like a wheel bearing - a bearing that's audible on the road won't always show up when you just spin it manually.
