Found mine has a small leak from the back of the big metal pipe near the back of the thermostat. Er, if you look back at the engine from under the nearside rear wheel there is a section of thin metal pipe that is a take off from the big metal round the engine pipe, and there is corrosion there causing a weep. It may be syncro specific as I think the pipe is to circumnavigate the fuel tank.

Leaks on the rad are hard to spot as access is limited and often the leak does not drip down as the heat of the rad causes it to evaporate before it drips.

Sorry to jump in here, but..........

I had to top up my system occasionally since last year, but didn't worry too much about it, and couldn't see any leaks..........................so last month due to my negligence the rad let go in a big way near Verdun. Now I'm not saying that Verdun is a good place to break down, but it's certainly difficult to feel to sorry for yourself in a place that has been witness to so many shattered lives.

But I digress.

The result was that we had to nurse the van through 1200 miles of french driving, ramming a large section of the matrix full of silicone sealer, and pouring in more French Leak Sealer than I might have thought reasonable. Every time we had to stamp on the brakes the plug of gunge let go again. The moral is, if you're losing coolant, it's coming out somewhere, and you simply have to find the leak, or disaster might well ensue.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Can I still get that braided hose for the bleed ring. The replacement I've got on is a bit pinched where it bends. When mine was disappearing it turned out to be a head gasket failure although there was no sign of problems in the sniff test
