Another temp gauge question!

Post by pete_vincent »

Hi all,

would any of you wish chaps mind telling me if there is any electrical components to check on the back of the instrument cluster in relation to the temp sensor?

After removal of the dash for some maintenance (mainly blower motor) my temp senor has given up the ghost!

The light still flashes on start up etc, but no reading.

I have put the wire at the sensor end to earth and the gauge responds so I assume I'd be right in saying the wiring to and from dash to sensor is ok?

Could it be the sensor has just packed up coincidentally or have I broke something whilst removing dash?

Don't know if its related, but my high-beam has stopped as well?

All fuses replaced, not sure about relays as finding info about an old JX is pretty hard!

This is actually a JX to AAZ conversion on an 83 panel van. I appreciate this question does get asked a lot and I have looked but could not find anything for this year/model.

Any advice would be gratefully received

If the gauge works when you ground the sensor wire and the light flashes when you first power up then I can't think of what else it can be other than the sensor (or its connector or its ground)? Bit weird that one...??

That's what I thought! I just wanted to check that there isn't anything I could have broke behind the dash that would affect the wiring from the sensor to the gauge.

Many thanks for your reply, I guess the best thing to do would be replace sensor and see what happens!

Many thanks

Regarding the headlamps, does the headlamp flasher work? If yes and dipped beam is OK then the problem is at the main/dip switch. If flasher doesn't work then it is probably a connection problem at that switch or at the connection to the relays/fuses.
