A large funnel with a flexible end is handy (fnaw, fnaw). Don't forget to pull out the telescopic tube on the oil filler, I had our van about eight years before I found this, and I change the oil at least twice a year. Maybe a chain or strap type oil filter wrench. An old washing up bowl?
Your not too far away, when were you thinking of doing it?
Are we going on anything else?

Right, just been going through the Haynes, according to that a 1600 should just have a strainer plate, I have a sump plug also. Could be because it is a vegetarian engine. Question is, do I need to take out both? If so do I need any gaskets or seals for the strainer? Where do I get them from?

You will need a new sump plug copper gasket and a strainer which should come with two paper gaskets. Go easy when trying to get the sump plug out. If it hasn't been off for a while it may be a little tight.

Don't forget to fill you new filter before putting it on, to prevent a dry start up.
