Electric Window/Regulator Motor Alternative

Post by GoldSyncro »

My drivers side electric window has stopped working again :( . Has anyone come across an alternative option to the 'rare as rocking horse s)!t' electric window/regulator motor? Has anyone used an aftermarket product such as; http://www.carsparesdirect.com/window-r ... new-p-4388" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?

Thanks

I've not used any kits, but I've managed to get my (passenger side) elec window working by taking the motor off, dismantling the motor and soaking the bearing in oil.
It's also worth running leads directly from the battery to the motor and running it up and down a few times.
The motors can be sensitive to a drop in voltage due to old wiring.

Thanks Tonytech, I'll give it a go. Checked the voltage and no problem there. I was also wondering if the motor could be refurbished? Does anyone know of a company who could undertake this?

Its worth noting that the window handle (and the stub which the winder handle screws on to) is one of the few things left over from the VW Beetle. I mention this because I picked up a electric kit four years that fixes over the stub and it winds my windows up and down no prob. It was specifically for the original VW Beetle (old-style). It does fix to where the winder handle was, rather than inside the door cavity, but it does the job very well.

They may be rarer still, not sure as I've not looked since, but it may be an avenue to explore. My kit came via ebay (new old stock) for just £7 for the whole lot. I don't think anyone had figured out what they were which is why the bidding didn't escalate. Either way, I would NOT be paying nearly £200 for a kit that was going to take me a few hours to fit myself! There are loads of universal car winder kits around under £60 which although may not fit out of the box, could be made to fit with some modification.

Hope that helps.

I've just received my new drivers (LHD) window regulator via VW Heritage/ VW Classic Parts.
It has a VW parts sticker.
The regulator is manufactured by Vaico, which I had guessed before ordering, but no one had the Vaico part in stock in the UK at the time of ordering.
Now they have.

This source is obviously much cheaper than VWH, but I was desperate to prepare for a trip.
Hope this helps someone.

The gist I get with the motors is that they are usually serviceable and if all else fails it is just an electric motor that can be rebuilt by a specialist.

It sounds like this is what I have on mine, but I bought new winder handles at Stanford Hall and plan to remove the eleccy motors this weekend, as they are so slow I can arrive at my destination before I've wound the window down :rofl

The weight of the glass plus condition of window guides is what tends to finish electric motors on a T25. Mine still work great but the tacky hardboard door panels that VW fitted aren't strong enough to support them really and I'd much prefer one that fitted inside door cavity. You can make almost anything fit if you have the tools.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhS8RVj0BBo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - not the same as a T25 but he found a way. I have two good winder mechanisms that I'm planning to adapt to take a more common (and readily available) motor. Have a box full from all kinds of vehicles - its just sussing which one will work reliably, be cheap to replace, and require the least amount of work. In an ideal world you want a spare door and winder mechanism to play around with ideas and hopefully retain manual override. Anything is possible if you have the mindset. If I come up with a solution I'll happily post it but its not top of my list this Summer. :D

No shortage of vids of chavs fitting universdal kits on cars using meccano brackets but they don't impress me much. A more robust (if not smart) method is needed considering weight of glass.

I have the same problem :( The mechanism is fine but the motor is shot !!

I have emailed Bosch re. replacement but no reply as yet.

I found a new t4 system in my shed so may try to 'marry' the two somehow.

If successful I'll post the info.

Its quite possible the motor itself is fitted to other vehicles or supplied for other applications. I often find this with so-called 'obsolete' parts that have simply vanished from T25 stock lists, but do in fact still exist under an entirely different OEM number. Failing that you can sometimes find a nearly identical part that just needs a little modding to make it work.

Well, after hours of work the t4 setup is now fitted and works fine apart from not reaching the bottom by 2" :roll:

I can live with this but will keep searching for the o.e. motor and replace the standard setup.

(no reply from Bosch as yet) !!

Came across these on eBay. Pricey and only 2 left. Did anybody have any luck speaking to Bosch?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Bus-T2-T3- ... 1526325933" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also came across this on the Samba;

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1065821" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Regulator rebuild per side $125.00
Regulator Core charges per side $185.00
Motor rebuild per side $90.00
Motor core per side $90.00

They discount a motor rebuild to $50.00 per side if done with a Regulator but core charges remain the same. All core and rebuild fees are paid in advance before items ship. Quickest method for payment is done by PayPal. Final payment needs to be paid by Money order or Bank Transfer. Estimated shipping to be in the $60.00 to $80.00 range.

Maybe a group purchase could be organised??
