Slow and poor acceleration
Hi folks. I have a 1985 1600 diesel t25, which, even on the flat, struggles to get above 50 mph and sometimes will lose speed on the motorway and drop to 40 mph...Hills are a nightmare. You can imagine the abuse that we get when the road opens up and frustrated drivers pass ! Any advice please. Thanks in advance. Tom.

Re: Slow and poor acceleration
With now, less than 50 bhp due to age, that's not far off for a CS non turbo diesel.

Re: Slow and poor acceleration
I know is not cheap, but we decided to go for an engine conversion. We installed a 2.0 golf gti engine. We can cruise at 65 70mph effortless, we can keep that speed on hills and never went to max speed but once I reached 100 mph. Not recommended though... not a vehicle to drive at those speeds, but nice to have it
Cheers

Is your diesel turbo or not we had similar problem when got back from France ended up outlet from fuel tank blocked (new tank fitted) try new filter first and check fuel flowing from tank then try again our evangelene still only maxes out at 65-70 and that's screaming the nuts out of her don't like doing that she's done 201400 miles

Re: Slow and poor acceleration
Before you go spending a fortune on a new engine just try the basics, replace the fuel filter and put some diesel system cleaner in the tank and/or the fuel filter when you change it. I used Diesel Magic and the effect was, well... Magic.
Also make sure you have'nt got any binding brakes and tyre pressures are right.
She's never going to be a sports car but you can enjoy her for what she is.
Best of luck
