If you're trying to save a quid here and a quid there, don't bother. Both MM and I have fitted no end of window rubbers and when the originals have been there for as long as 30 years and are past their best, in our experience there are no savings to be had on this. We've chatted about this in the past and there are few sources we can recommend.

You just fit the best you can get from a known good supplier and pay the money. I've lost count of how many windows rubbers fitted by owners trying to save money that I've had to throw in the bin because either they didn't fit properly, looked terrible or leaked afterwards. They ended up paying twice for the rubber, plus my time.

Aim to buy good quality (close to or OE) to start with, and fit once, even if you have to buy them one at a time as funds permit. If the quality or origin is in any doubt, more so if vendor doesn't know or isn't clear, don't buy them. Its simply not worth it.

On a general note I'm a great believer in making very careful considerations before any purchase (plain tight if you like) and all my posts are aimed at the thrifty or those with limited knowledge. I don't buy all my parts in one place either but window rubbers are akin to brakes in my view. Buy cheaper seals and you'll almost certainly pay for it later.

Heritage seals MIGHT be alright, but I'd want to see them side by side with Chris's (and fitted examples) before they had my money and I don't see that being feasible.

There may be vendors that sell really good seals at less cost but I'm not aware of any. On the whole its one of those few parts where the price actually does reflect how good they are. 'Bundles' in particular should be treated with extreme caution. I wouldn't argue that they're expensive, particularly if you have them all to do, but better to accept that and have a perfect result that will also match originals for quality than to have to pull the whole lot out again, lose the money, and in addition end up paying what you tried to save in the first place.

If you don't intend to keep vehicle long then none of the above matters I suppose although you'll need a few mates to help you crowbar the cheap ones in.

Thanks for your advice i am trying to get the best quality for the best price thats why i am asking these questions.I take on board what your saying beware of cheap seals makes perfect sense.vwheritage have a set on offer reduced from 300 to 150 im thinking that sounds like a good offer if someone had experience of there quality it would be helpfull.However if you dont ask you dont know.You have answered my question and shall we following your advice.

Note that the blue VW sign next to items on Heritage does NOT mean they are 'original' classic parts or even recommended by Volkswagen although some may assume that is the case. I honestly think thats very misleading for buyers. Some might be, some might not, but its vague.

Windscreen seal for instance just says 'good quality'. Not sure what that means. No idea who manufactured it. If you ring up Chris he can tell you exactly what he supplies. Heritage may - worth a try.

Mind you, the amount of time I'm using up even discussing all this....

At the end of the day, VW Emporium is the one we both use. In part because we have so much confidence in those he sells and because he is genuinely helpful and not grumpy or vague like some retailers. If its a quid or two more for that, then so be it. I did all the shopping around myself once. So did MM. You can waste days on it. We settled on the same place - for good reasons. Price is fair, they're excellent seals. End of.

MM doesn't like repeating himself. I can understand that. You're talking to two guys who have seen all the cheap carp out there.
