Fuel pump woes

I've had loads of problems with my T25 breaking down due to fuel problems, I've replaced the mechanical pump several times, including the push rod, having got fed up with that, I've fitted and electric pump and a regulator, it worked fine on Friday when we tried it, but today it cut out when going up hill, it started again easily, when I got it home I increased the regulator from 1/2 PSI to 1 PSI, it went ok but still cut out and started again, I increased the PSI to
1 1/2, but it seems worse, when running, here is very little fuel in the filter near the carb, and when engine stopped the filter looks completely empty, I've not sen any of these electric pups etc before, so am at a loss as to what the problem is.

Any suggestions welcome, I do have a good replacement mechanical pump if needed

Obvious answer - it's not your pumps! Have you dropped the fuel tank and checked for carp blocking egress of fuel? (Or minnows ) That's what I would be looking at.

Weak point can be float valve if you switch to electric as fuel can leak past and flood carb. I bought a rebuild kit on ebay for about £30 which nailed remaining probs I had with fuel issues. Been bang on ever since! Not sure about empty line but if carb already full then it'll grind to a halt anyway. Air leak in fuel line?>

Cheers, I don't know much about these carbs, I'm assuming excess fuel goes from the carb back to the tank ??

If the blockage is large enough to block the outlet it will not be able to get into the filter!

Fuel supply for a carb is normally about 4psi, and you wouldn't expect a clear filter to be full anyway.

does that include pierburg carbs? the info on the regulator says that for webbers it should be set at 2 PSI, I was told by Just Kampers, where I got the bits, that if the pressure is set too high it will damage the carb, so I have been playing it safe, regarding fuel blockages, the only time I've had problems with the mechanical pump, is when I try to start the engine when it's hot

After more breakdowns today, stripped everything back and found that the stem of one of the filters had a crease in it which must have restricted flow, it's running ok now, though it'll be a while before I can trust it again thanks for all the suggestions.

If its one of the round silver coloured regulators, I had one on my kitcar but I had to replace it as it couldn't keep up with the engine's demand. Admittedly that is with 3x40DCOE Webers but the car gets around 25mpg so similar or better then a 1.9DG. Maybe those regulators come with different flow rates, but if the problem comes back, I would be a bit suspicious of it.
