battery light on but very dim
I have just driven my new van ( a 2.0 air cooled) in the dark for the first time and noticed that the battery light was on. It was very dim but it was noticible. It seemed to get a bit brighter as I reved the engine. I checked the belt to the alternator and that seemed tight enough and stuck a volt meter on the battery with the engine running and it showed 13.8 which I believe is ok. Is this likely to be a battery problem? I did notice the battery looked fairly small. Or is it likely to be something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if it's relevant but turning the headlights off when I got home made no difference. Would quite like to get this sorted before grill and chill at the weekend

Probably a bad connection on the alternator thin wire, if you have 13.8V I would't worry, just take a voltmeter with you and monitor it.
Unlikely to be a battery problem imo.

Do you have a split charge relay and leisure battery?
often the charge light wire is used to trigger the relay so could explain it.

Re: battery light on but very dim
There is a leisure battery but there doesn't appear to be a split charger. I think it only charges via the zig unit on mains hook up. To be honest the wiring to and from the zig unit is a bit of a mess and I have disconnected the leisure battery until I can give it a proper check over.

A failing diode in the Alternator will cause a batt. light to come on dim
