Not too pretty, should I worry?

Post by nicktennear »

Having a bit of an adventure replacing some hoses but making progress after a recommendation of finding a proper motor factors, really can't fault a bloke in blue overalls can you? Anyway, started putting new pipes in this evening and was a bit worried about a rusty ring mark so thought I'd have a look at the old insert and this is what I found. They found better on the Mary Rose.

Any ideas of possible damage to innards? Anything I can do to counter possible damage? I'm planning on a good flush before replacing coolant but should I look at an additive to the plain water I was going to use? Thanks.

Hard to see scale but my guess is heater hose?
Damaged or rubbed through ( mine rubbed through on a driveshaft when heavily loaded before i had it)
This was added as a joiner, I had a similar piece of corroded metal now have an off cut of stainless tube.

Sorry, not a quiz. :D It leaves the engine at 25mm then reduces down to 16mm to go into the LPG reducer. When I bought the van 4ish years ago the coolant was brown tinged but since then hasn't been too bad. Probably changed coolant very year since then, obviously not by choice.

Hope you're not serious about using plain water. These engines need the correct coolant, and in the correct ratios as well, or the head studs corrode pretty quickly.

Ah yes! Sorry. I did read the post a few times, but still missed the vital part. Old age doesn't come alone....

Yes, just flushing with water then refill with appropriate coolant.

Web searches reveal a lot of flush additives but I can't help but think these are snake oils that could do more harm. I've got aluminium connectors now too.
