I am trying to find the metal bush which presses into the gearbox bell housing supporting the main shaft, some sort of soft metal with grooves machined in ,sorry to be so vague, but I can't find a part no. or pic. on the internet.I did take a pic. of mine but it seems to have disappeared between my camera and photobucket
I am trying to order one from Brickwerks(or anywhere else)but would like to at least know what it is called or a part no.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Gearbox bell housing bush/Main shaft support
The oil thrower is not available seperately from the bellhousing, except from I think, Winkler, in Germany
it's not a bush or support it is there to resist the oil fling from the crown wheel being drawn along rotating shaft and overloading the oil seal, shaft runs in 0.5mm clearance, ie 0.25mm gap around shaft
I have them made in slight oversize by machine shop as so many are damaged by numpties fitting alt engines and not fitting spigot bearing and not fitting the diesel one with the built in seal in diesel/in line 4 installations - no spigot beaing means 350 miles later you have an oil contaminated slipping clutch and damaged parts to fix - using a petrol spigot bearing without the seal means clutch dust contamination of bearing and eventual failure and damage, so if you are doing an engine conversion make sure you fit the right one and if you are asking a company about doing an engine conversion ask them about the spigot bearing and if they fob you off walk away as they know not what they are doing

Re: Gearbox bell housing bush/Main shaft support
Aidan, thanks for the reply,as usual your technical knowledge is amazing. Brickwerks tried to get some in from a German company that was the only place they could find listing them but apparently nothing came of it.
I am doing the conversion (slowly and with a lot of help from here)and was aware of the spigot bearing issue(probably from reading something you had written about it) and already have one from Brickwerks.
The diesel bell housing I obtained was completely bare so I thought it best to replace what I thought was a bronze bush with a new one.
I am o.k to carefully remove the one in the petrol bell housing and refit that?
Same question applies to the clutch release arm and associated bracketry ?
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Gearbox bell housing bush/Main shaft support
you can swap over everything from the petrol bellhousing except the clutch slave bracket and the lever arm on the end of the clutch fork which are petrol or diesel specific
Re: Gearbox bell housing bush/Main shaft support
O.K the seller of the bellhousing assured me everything would swap over,do you know where I can get the bracket and lever arm?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Gearbox bell housing bush/Main shaft support
diesel lever arm is afaik still available new - not sure about the slave bracket I don't have the parts programme on the linux partition of the laptop which I am on at the mo
Re: Gearbox bell housing bush/Main shaft support
O.K thanks Aidan,
Is there any reason the petrol parts won't fit/work on a Van that was originally a petrol?
Can I trouble you for the part no. if you get a moment(I noticed you responded to this at 5:30 am-
I hope you are getting enough sleep!)
Or do you have any used ones you could part with?
Thanks again

Re: Gearbox bell housing bush/Main shaft support
if you are converting a petrol wbx van to inline 4 engine then you should use the diesel bellhousing, starter, input shaft, gearbox mount, clutch slave bracket and support strut, and rear linkage rod and cup along with the diesel engine mount stuff and sump regardless of new engine being petrol or diesel; plenty of vans bodged without all of it, some of them have had gearshift problems though as subtle differences between position of gearbox due to different engines
Diesel Lever arm I have in stock new and used
Clutch slave bracket and strut maybe used spare
