I'm having a little difficulty decoding the VIN on my van as it doesn't have a 17 digit number but a 10 digit - starts with 25A. The only copy I can find is the one stamped on the rear of the front R/H chassis outrigger (which matches the V5C and MOT). Nothing on either door pillar.
I believe it's a Danbury conversion, with a 1970cc air cooled CU engine and was registered in August 1981 (on an X plate) - it was originally a mushroom/sand colour but has been resprayed a couple of times since.
The link on VINs in the Wiki is dead http://www.vanagon.com/info/vin/
Any ideas?

Re: Decoding 10 digit VINs
It will be from the first year of production when they still used the old VW 10 digit chassis number. 25 = type 25, A= 1980 model year (Aug 79-Aug 80).
