Dashboard - am I missing something?

Post by volks_womble »

Took the van for a drive the other night, for the first time since we bought it...

The speedo seems to work (although I don't believe the odometer does), however, I was slightly confused by the right hand clock...

What is he main face of it supposed to be telling me? The fuel gauge at the bottom seems to be working, but I can't see any graduations, needles or anything on the face- just what looks like a set of crosshairs (it seems to be divided into 4...)

Am I missing what the clock is supposed to be telling me? Is it broken? or is it just filling up a hole in the dash?

Cheers
Mark

Sounds like just the standard dash without clock or rev counter. If it had one or the other that's where it would be fitted.

Sounds like mine which is just temp and top and fuel at bottom, higher spec stuff utilizes the full face as a clock. but yours and mine dont.

James,

Sounds like you have more than me, with a temp gauge - but I guess that's cos mine is Aircooled...

I will take a picture tonight, but it sounds like I just have a low spec dash... I will stop staring at it expecting it to tell me something meaningful!

Cheers

Aye if its Aircooled your probably just gonna have a fuel guage. All you need to know is if the sun is down its night time :P :ok

The right hand 'clock' in yours is mostly a dummy. Some had a proper clock but in my view modern digital clocks leave those standing now. Later models had a rev counter.

However, having been born into v-dubs from early bugs, theres a LOT to be said for being blissfully ignorant and the simplicity of dials on an Aircooled makes for a happy life. Its when folk add temperature guages, oil pressure monitors etc etc and spend too much time looking at the dash instead of out the front, when the real problems begin. :D
