caravell 2.5i wont start but runs???

Hi there all. I am not too stupid for a lady and with extra help I should manage to solve this problem.
I have run a wire from the battery to the pump and included a switch to get the vehicle to start. But I need to resolve the problem. Also once the vehicle is running i am able to switch off the direct feed and the vehicle runs perfectly, its just the initial start up. Where should I start looking?

hello and welcome to the forum.
I would start by checking all the electrical connections unplug and clean everything, remake the earths making sure you have metal on metal don't spend any money until your sure you've got the right voltages where they are meant to be
