Trouble removing head

I am currently trying to remove my head, not mine but one on my 1.9dg engine in my van (if it was mine I would probably loose it or so my grandpa used to say )
I have removed all the nuts and none of the studs have snapped so I thought is done the worst of it....... Alas no, the liner is stuck to the head and I can't split the two apart :/ I really don't want the liner to come out as that probably means taking the engine out. Has anyone got any ideas how I can split them apart??

If you search on you tube, there are some good strip down videos and the one I looked at gave advice about your exact problem. I had the same when I stripped mine for a rebuild. Where the liners meet in the middle, there are flats, like lugs, cast in them. I had just one lift with the head and I managed to place a screwdriver between the liners, after I had lifted the head a little, and managed to lever the liner down.

Thanks Eloise, I've watched just about all of them now, tried it on my head (which is attached to the engine, which is still in the van) and no luck!! I've spent 3 evenings after work, using everything I can to lever the little tabs on the liner, I've used penetrating spray, I've heated the head up and I've tried tapping all the way around the liner with a hammer and a blunt piece of wood and it still won't bloody budge!! I'm stuck, I can't take the liner out as I know if I do the engine needs to come out to reassemble and I don't have any means of doing that anymore someone please help I'm completely out of ideas and patience now!

You can remove the gudegon pins to remove pistons with the engine in place, via the waterpump or water flange holes depending on side.
So you may need to take the plunge and remove the head and liners, there is a risk of breaking rings if so they are not so expensive just the hastle of glaze busting the liners and seting the rings up.
its all a pita with the engine in place.
Its not so hard to remove the engine if it comes to that, plenty of people on here happy to help with advice if it comes to it.
