While trying to diagnose an overheating issue in france (it was actually the waterpump), I removed my thermostat. At some point I need to replace it, but i'm not sure whether it has a single o-ring between the waterpump and thermostat, or one each side - i.e. another one between the thermostat and the plastic elbow?
When I took it out there was a single o-ring, and some liquid gasket. Currently I have a single o-ring between the plastic elbow and waterpump.

Re: 1z thermostat o-ring arrangement
Just found this Pic of an engine using the same waterpump, which seems to indicate a single o-ring between plastic elbow and thermostat?:-

Re: 1z thermostat o-ring arrangement
I would check the plastic for flatness - they tend to warp and never seal again, that may be the reason for the presence of the liquid gasket. Mine was completely oval when removed and wouldn't seal at all.

Re: 1z thermostat o-ring arrangement
Cheers!
I think i'll be getting some liquid gasket to stick in my tool/spares kit, but currently it doesn't leak with the one o-ring and no thermostat, so it might be ok anyway..
