Overheat flashing light......

Post by Chiefy »

On my 1Y converted (was a 1.9 petrol) panel, the flashing light was on constantly yesterday :?
Me and my fitter pal checked the coolant sensor, the temp sensor on the block (grounded out and temp needle went to the top) rad heating up fine, coolant level fine, water circulating fine, drives fine..... Stumped

Then to add to the annoyance, it went off!!

But then came back on and stayed on for about 5 miles, then went off again!

Ok, what am I missing?

Cheers

If the gauge is still showing a normal temperature when the light is flashing, its a coolant level sender problem. Try taking out the "relay" marked either 42 or 43, if the problem then goes away it is probably a bad connection between there and the coolant level sensor. (Its not really a relay, it contains a circuit that sends a ground pulse to the gauge when a coolant low condition is detected, but it looks like a relay and is in with the relays at the fuse box.)
