tickover on an auto

Post by jeffdub »

Wonder if someone could give me a bit of advice please ? I have a 1.9 dg auto, from cold I start it by pressing the accelerator and turning the key , it fires up no problem and sits at 2000 rpm , blip the pedal and it drops down to about 1200 rpm , the problem is if I put it into gear without letting it idle for 5 mins the revs drop to about 500rpm and it does this at every stop for a few hundred yards then it's fine :?:

The 'idle stabilization valve' was fitted for this and other reasons...to compensate for auto transmission drag/turning on lights/power steering/cold start transition.
However age related issues may have altered its effectiveness.

Does the choke flap have the little air-by-pass flap?

I don't know kev , I'll have a look when I get home , is it on the metal flap that's closed when cold and opens as it warms ?
