I have removed my fridge and units to do some bodywork and I've decided to look and see if I can figure out why the fridge has never worked on gas. Its fine on electric. I disconnected the gas pipe that goes to the burner and this popped out. It this a jet because there is a hole one end but not the other? The fridge is a RM212 with electronic ignition. Any ideas what part I need?
It looks mighty like a filter that has been cut off to me - if you look closely at the brass in the centre does it look like it is made of lots of pins of brass densely packed together? I have seen a gas appliance that had a filter like that in but for the life of me I can't remember what. Maybe a Camping Gaz appliance.
Thanks for the reply
I've taken a picture with a better camera and there is a pin hole in it. You can hardly see it! Might try and see if I can find some impossibly thin needle and poke it through. I would prefer to buy a new one if they are still available.
RM182 but you can see where the jet should be in the pipework - that pic does look like it has been sawn off and was a jet. (There is no thread for screwing the jet in anywhere) A pic of what you have at the end of your pipework/connected to the burner would help.
No sign of any threads on the part that the jet fits onto.
I've managed to get a flame but it wont stay on. Either the flame is too small or the thermocouple is shot. How does my flame look? Looks pretty weedy to me!
Good find that pic - looks like that is all there is to your jet. They make so many variations on loads of models.
Your flame should be a little larger than that (assuming that it is on full) - people have cleaned their jet by using a fine strand of copper wire and running the jet up and down it. I would remove the burner itself and give it a clean up also as rust and clag can drop down the burner tube onto it - you will need to undo the screw on the right somehow (Cut off and re-drill may be necessary as it will be very rusted) and the burner should be just held in by clipping in a hole on the left.
I cleaned out the gas pipe all the way through as I found microscopic particles kept blocking my jet. Some fridges have a small filter like a cigarette filter just pushed into the pipe which would stop this. As to whether this is just a common solution to this or is a factory filter I have never found out for certain.
On page 4 of the PDF there are instructions for cleaning the jet with white spirit and blowing it through with LP air.
Page 3 also describes the jet with one aeration hole as being for 50mBar butane/propane. Your photo only look to have one hole in the jet, so are you using the right supply?

Hi Boxy
I am using butane - camping gas. The jet has one hole. No idea whether its a size 2 or 4 but there are two aeration holes on the burner. Managed to give it a clean and the flame size has improved. The burner frame was slightly bent so the thermocouple was too far from the flame. Kept it alight for two hours but it didn't get cold. Guess I'll have to invert it for a while.
Thanks for all the help.
Rob
No point in inverting it if it cools fine on electrickery! Leave it fired up overnight as a test. It can take quite a while to work.
Check that the baffle is in place in the flue and at the correct height.
I read that imports from Germany run on a 50mbar regulator instead of UK pressure which I think is 27mbar. Just a thought as previous post by Boxy. My hob flames were rubbish till I changed to a 50mbar regulator as mine is a Germany westy.
My fridge has exactly the same looking jet as yours, when it started playing up on gas in Spain earlier this year I took it out and used a single core separated from multi-core core copper wire to clean, basiclly threaded on and spun/ran up and down, my thought was that being copper it shouldn't damage the jet but would remove any dirt etc, has worked perfectly since. My flame is about that size on lowest and about double that on highest.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Decided to call it a day on the gas as I almost never camp without electric. Removed the gas pipe to the fridge. Just had too much to do before going away!!
