How much time and money and skill have you got??

Its not been done before that I am aware of..

Its a mazda engine so doubt it has the same bolt pattern as any Furd V6 adapters that are available..
The clutch and flywheel might well be bigger so wont go in the bellhousing..
The wiring loom might prove interesting to make work..

I have As much time as mother earth allows me lol and also my main trade is engineer was a mechanic but now moved on to building and designing so fingers crossed I should be ok aslong as I know that it will fit. As for money I don't have a bottomless pit lol what would be the problems for it not to fit do you think? Height, depth, length of gearbox when attached to the lump? If I could work that out I could probably solve the problem. Any ideas mate

Like I said.. its not been done before, so how can I guess as to whats not going to fit..

if you have the time and drop both engines and lift the ST into the back, then you'l prob see.. but seeming as rover v8's and Furd V6's have gone in,the back of T25's, I cant imagine it will be bigger than those.. unless the sump is particularly deep, so would have to shorten it.. but as its a one off, everything will have to be made and thought about..

Sounds like you got yourself a project... :ok

Have you got any further with this? As far as I know the Mondeo 2.5 V6 is a Ford Duratec engine and not sourced from Mazda. Mazda made the earlier 2.5 V6 that was found in the MX6 and Ford Telstar. I'm looking at fitting the Mazda v6 to my Syncro.

Cheers

Mazda/ford/jag, its all the same basic design as far as I am aware.. the mazda and Jag engines supposedly had VVT as well, but I think there are a few different flavours out there.. the 2.3 4 pot petrol engines are mazda (transits/connects and Galaxy had these)

Until someone bites the bullet and does it, limited info is going to be available.. Is the ford ECU software and OBD as complicated as the stuff fitted to the older V6 scorpio and cosworth versions? as aparently its an utter pig if you dont have all the sensors and parameters right...

As I understand it, and if Wikipedia has it correct, the engine in the Mazda MX6 and Ford Telstar and Probe from 88 to around 95, is a Mazda design K series engine. (84.5x74.2mm bore and stroke) The Mondeos from 94 used a Ford built Duratec engine (82.4x79.5mm)which was also used by Jag and Mazda with VVT. I'm not sure but it's possible that the blocks are the same or very similar.

In any case I've just bought a 2.5 V6 Mazda KL-DE engine which I'm hoping to fit to my Syncro. Currently it is running a 2.0 8V Vauxhall Astra motor which I've been very happy with but the Mazda has been offered to me at a good price and the extra power is tempting. :D I'll let you know how it goes.

Yep I wouldn't stake my like on Wikipedia either. But over here we generally got the same as what was available in Europe as opposed to the USA, as well as a few Australian models which you may not have got over there. The Telstar was the model we got before the Mondeo and I think it came from OZ. I know you guys did get the Mazda MX6 over there and the 626 which was based on the same platform as the Telstar. Mondeos were outsold here 10 to 1 by the BMW 3 series so are quite scarce. Hopefully someone can clear it up but I'm pretty sure the Mazda K engines are different to the Mondeo Duratec V6's although power wise they are similar.

Ah.. looks like the "K" (KL) is an earlier version.. the Duratec and later AJ mazda engine (and Jag) appear to be the same block.. at least with the Jag version there is a RWD sump etc, in case oil starvation is an issue using a transverse engine..
Good project :ok

Seems the KL is smaller than the duratec too.. but 590mm from top of plenum to bottom of sump.. but of course not sure about crank centerline.. that will determine where its gonna sit in relation to gearbox....

I am on the SyncroSA forum and have seen some of your posts there. I'll start a new thread and put it up here shortly with all the details and pics. It was a bit of work but I'm very happy with the end product. Best thing I've ever done to my bus!
