wheel cylinder bolt

Well, got the front brakes finished, feeling chuffed with myself, moved to the rears and as predicted the bleed nipple melted like cheese on approach of the spanner... no matter chums as I had taken your advice and bought new wheel cylinders and with my new found skills with brake flaring tools well ..bring it on. The shoes were quickly whipped out, the nut to the brake pipe predictably rounded off so I cut that off, now to the bolt holding the cylinder in place. And it all ground to a halt.......
Anyone know what size it is because 13mm is to big 12mm to small, tried open, ring, sockets, flaring spanners. 1/2 inch is not snug enough any thoughts. I can't hammer a smaller one on as there is no room to swing a hammer, I've cleaned it up and soaked in easing oil it still looks like its welded in. (it also looks like someone has tried before !!) I have sprayed 3-1 from this side on to the end of the bolt, (you can just see it under the cylinder). So what size is it and how do you get it out ?? I took some piccies but they're not that good and don't add any value to this problem

Vws are metric, so its going to be 13mm, the reason you have problems is probably because its old and a bit rusty

It should be 13mm, if you have a hex spanner or socket they are better at getting rounded bolts off rather than bi-hex. Or speed wrenches are handy for those sort of jobs.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the Irwin's as I have a local screwfix . I would like to get the brakes finished this BH weekend. Just a thought, I have a gas burner would heating up the bolt help ? I appreciate the danger of knaked flames etc, renewing all the fuel lines was one of the first jobs done, along with renewing the fan motor....in fact thinking about it there's not been a simple job yet, is there such a thing on these vans...? ho hum still enjoying the experience though.

Screwfix don't sell them but Toolstation does they are open all bank holiday there is a branch in Worthing.

Thanks big herb and itchyfeet, mission accomplished..... finally, fortunately I had some new M8 bolts now just a case of cutting one down to size to replace the mangled old one
