I've found a local supplier that does 6mm fitting for the pump so I will try them today and get some new 6mm hose as well.

Tonight I have fitted the new pump, replaced the old fuel hoses and wired it all in.
Took ages to pull the petrol through had to put 12v to the pump to try and prime the pipes.
It eventually started and ran, though the idle speed is very fast so I adjusted it on the left hand carb ?? Virtually screwed it in until the stop. Might be the auto choke?? As I took this off last night as the valve was stuck open.

The pump has a slight leak on the outlet. Is it ok to use PTFE tape on the threads, have read on line that it is ok. Will try this in the morning to try and stop the leak.

Getting there, happy with tonight's progress.

Mine had a slight leak on outlet but I just gave it an extra tug and it stopped. Not leaked since. I imagine PTFE could also work. And yes, I too ran 12v to pump to prime line but once you've done that, you can pretty well forget about pump and worry about other things instead. Just check all junctions and make sure your connections are secure.

Its a good solution and more so on the 2.0l as you can just forget the old pump. Some fit blanking plates where the pump was but providing the pushrod is removed and pipes sealed, the old pump will do a similar job.

Check your fuel hoses as part of a service (as everyone should do) and renew whenever they appear suspect.

Pump all done and leak sorted. Thanks for everyone's help. Very happy with my efforts but would not have known how to, without the help on here.

Now problems with high revs. See new post. Ahhhhhhhh

Hi

Rather than starting another fuel pump post, I thought I would add to this one.

My van 'usually' runs pretty well. It starts fine, it idles fine, but the first bit of road I drive on is a slight incline which it really struggles up until the revs pick up a bit and then it gets going. (Is this a priming issue?)

It also struggles up some hills (when warm), a bit of misfiring and dramatic slowing. Drop down a gear and higher revs it seems to pick up again. Sometimes it seems to be when I just depress the accelerator in preparation for a hill? Does the mechanical fuel pump change with engine revs? Not sure how it works?

Does it sound like a fuel pump issue? (It is a 2.0 CU engine with a recently changed fuel filter) :ok

Thanks again

Mike

Mike mine still struggles on hills even with the new pump, but I think I have engine issues as I'm blowing oil out of the exhaust so seems to be cylinder issues and will need the head off and checked. Speed picks up as long as I keep the speed up and change up gears as indicated on the speedo. It does slow down on hills but as you say it eventually picks up. Just happy to have it running to get me through the rest of the summer and autumn then get it sorted over the winter, so hopefully it will keep going until then.

Reads like a timing issue, maybe advance not working

You can get 6mm fittings for those pumps although I fitted 8mm all the way through. Certainly many filters will accept 8mm and 6mm
