1989 T25 1.6 turbo diesel diesel pump leak...HELP! Please

Post by Bigredfunbus »

Hi, My big red fun bus is leaking diesel. At first I thought I had a leaking injector pipe (not the first I've replaced 2 before) unfortunately it wasn't (I have spares!) On closer inspection it was coming from under a lever device (I don't know what it is, poss something to do with the return flow maybe??) on top of the pump.

I took the lever off via a single nut and underneath is a spindle that comes through a blue ring seal, I put it back together and the leak is now much worse, clever me! I don't know if I can replace the seal or if this is something has to be done by a specialist or if I need a new pump (Forbid the thought! :x )

As you can probably tell I'm no mechanic and generally manage to fix things with help from a trusty Haynes manual and my little orange Kamper manual, this has worked well for the last 5 years but now I'm a bit stuck. Any help will be much appreciated :-)

I'v taken some pics in case what I've said makes no sense but I don't know how to show them as the file size is too big, I'm no techy either!! , please help, I need to be on the road.... :D

Thanks for reading.
Julie.

For a quick fix, remove the nut and place a washer then replace the nut, do not over tighten as you will strip some threads there, hand tight should suffice. It should help you until you get a new washer. There are plenty of threads showing how to replace it.
