1.9 df wont idle

Hi after wiring in the df engine to what i think was a dg panel van after lots of messing around i have had it running 1st crack of the key but have to use the accelerator as it wont idle i have read the haynes manual and tinkered with the idle screw but to no sucess and now im at my wits end lol any help would be appriciated as i was wondering if there was i idle stabilizer or and think cheers nik

Which carb are you using and have you checked the correct operation of the choke?

Hi i have just checked and it got a solex on it and the choke operates on the stepped ladder thing and is the choke automatic or manual as runs fine on choke till its reved then cuts out and wont idle then i have to press accel to get it to start then keep reving otherwise it cuts out hop this helps cheers nik

I've got a df in mine and idle has always been a bit erratic until the engine is fully warm . mine did improve after curing all the air leaks around the carb but still idles at a very low rev .i It will be interesting to see what's suggested here.

I can live with irratic idle lol but no idle seams to be a problem i am going to try cleaning carb tomorrow and re gasketing the carb to manifold as had this engine that long i carnt remember how it idled in original vehicle lol ill see what i can find tomorrow as car seams to move a little asin flex at carb base

hi replaced 2 bottom gaskets with gasket paper and hey presto still wont idle checked timing and replaced all the vacumm hoses and still the same i have even blanked off the brake servo hose as to eliminate leaks some were along the pipe had the carb off and cleaned with carb cleaner and still wont tick over so now im at my wits end lol and help wound be appriciated

You need some advice from the more experienced guys on here or do a search as i do as it's prob a common topic .

Have you checked the idle cut off valve is working (number 17) with the ignition switched on remove and replace the wire the valve should click audibly.

Then check the idle jet is not blocked (number

Finally sorted lol i have checked the idle cut off valve and was clicking when wire removed and cleaned the carb with cleaner and air still wouldnt run off choke so quick look on ebay and a woman was selling a carb off a Aircooled one as she had upgraded to twin carbs £15 later and a 10 min drive fitted the new carb turned the idle screw down and hey presto one running camper and one happy me lol thanks guy for all the help
