Changing the lesuire battery is it flat?

Post by m4tthew »

Hi All,

I have a 1983 Westfalia Joker and I am pretty sure the Lesuire battery has had it. Is there a simple way to tell? Do the lights on the fridge tell me? Also if I do want to change do I have to totally remove the captains seat? Thanks.

A cheap voltmeter / multimeter is a very handy thing to have in your tool box.
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.

Swivel the seat 45deg towards the door, then slide it all the way forward until it comes off the runners. Takes a minute. There might be a plastic "sliver" in one or both runner, to stop it from coming all the way out. That just removes.

Once it's out, you can get it properly tested - but if it's an aged battery that's been sat flat for a while, then almost certainly it's dead.

Thanks for your help. Will look to pick up a battery and swap it in ten next couple of days.

I put some dimensions on the WIKI ..... T25 battery boxes require low profile batteries (normally 175mm high) normal 190mm height is too tall for the lid to shut properly.

Westfalia fitted a standard starter battery as a leisure (Code 100 low profile is a good choice) unless you can find a Deep Cycle Leisure that will fit without costing too much.
