Essential tasks with gearbox/engine out

Hi All

The engine is back in the van and running. Despite having replaced the crankshaft seals front and rear, pushrod seals, distributor seal, oil cooler seals and the rocker seals I've identified a couple of new leaks.

The first which leaks a fair bit, when the engine is off, is underneath the sump. Does anyone know what the cover in the photo is for and does it have a seal I can replace? I'm fairly certain this is leaking and it is not leaking down from further up the engine.

Oil pressure relief plate.. there is a seal inside.. but it doesn't look as though it is leaking...from here..

I also have slower leak coming from a crankcase bolt at the back of the engine, please see pic. Is the fix for this as simple as sealing the bolt with Blue Hylomar?

The bolts round the crankcase oil seal are always to watch.. did you change the seal..if so did you retorque correctly.

A dab of hylomar and a recheck with the torque wrench will do no harm..

I was hoping for a leak free engine having replaced the majority of the seals, so was gutted when I spotted these leaks.
Any help much appreciated.

What does the oil pressure relief plate do? It does appear to be leaking from here and dripping off the bottom of the sump. Would it just be a case of replacing the seal or is the leak a sign of a build up of pressure somewhere?

I did replace the crank oil seal along with the flywheel seal and felt washer. I also replaced the shims to bring endfloat back within spec. I retorqued the 5 flywheel bolts to spec in the Haynes. Didn't touch the bolt in the pic.

is there any point in installing an engine bay seal, for an Aircooled engine, in a WBX, to protect the electrical parts a little more from the elements

Im now on my 3rd Ignition coil, 2nd one was full of gunk in the connector

surely some kind of protection/glove/hood for the ignition coil or even other electrical parts would be good too?
