Just got back from picking up the van.
It's over a two hour round trip - up to the Col de la Schlutz and down again all through hairpin bends - van loved it.
Cedric the mechanic was charming and a bit rueful - as he pointed out the van was built before he was born and they aren't used to these types of vehicles. He was very taken with Sarran - who clearly got to the heart of the matter very quickly.
And now I must go and make the most of the last evening of our holiday - the fire is burning, the sun is out and I think I might have to have a swim in the freezing lake!

What a great end to an amazing story.
Top work Sarran.
Just cleared out my van after our France trip, I was packing TWO spare rotor arms, TWO dizzy caps, and spare coil, And TWO fan belts just in case. Alas, I needed HT leads (which I had left at home, and had THREE spares).
I was only 100K away from you as well!!!
We shall both learn from our experiences I'm sure.
One day it will be you helping someone else out.

Got back to UK late last night - van munched the miles in usual bone-jangling roary fashion.
Someone tried to jemmy their way into the van after we left it for a few hours in Epernay - the champagne capital!
Bent the door frame good and proper - pic attached, and one of van back at camp.
Not quite sure what to make of that holiday - but many thanks all for comments and support, and Sarran for his timely intervention.
Salut!

So glad to hear to made it back! I know the feeling when you are potentially stuck in a foreign place. We spent 2 weeks in France and loved every min and the van behaved well with only a few minor niggles, starter solenoid wire was knocked off when I was checking the engine over but soon fixed. I will hopefully go back next year. Well done

Holy crap. That's IS bad luck.
I was also booked to stay in Epernay on our outward journey but we missed the train and wild camped instead near Calais.
The van looks lovely though. Nice colour scheme.
At least your home under your own steam (that's all we wanted to achieve).
Next time.... Spares my friend!
