EJ22 cutting out / won't start - waggle ECU wires starts
Hi, I have an EJ22 in my T25. It was running fine and then failed to start. It turns over but doesn't start. Thought initially it was the ignition coil but changed that and then discovered moving the ECU / Wires around it would eventually start. Any ideas, I presume it's something with the wiring although looks in ok condition (if a bit of a mess), but could it be the ECU itself? I guess I'm going to need to try and find an auto-electrician that can come out... (Cardiff area)

TSR conversion? Might be a break in the cold start wire (goes from ecu to starter solenoid, so ecu knows engine ia being cranked) or might just have come loose.

I bought the van with the engine already there so no info on it (think it was done before the last owner too so prob 6 years +). I can get it running fine by putting the wires in a certain position, but it will cut out if I move them. The wires are all taped together and there's a lot of them, I'll try and find that one, thanks

Older Subarus are known for loom failure, especially the engine part where it is trapped between block and inlet manifold.
Does it have a lambda probe in the exhaust? If not then it could be 22+ years old...

I think it's 90 - 94 from a legacy, I changed the ignition coil using the part number on it and it came back as that and looking at pictures etc it all points to that model but I could be wrong I'm pretty new to this
I played with it a bit more and the problem seems to come from one set of wires heading from the ecu to a round cylinder (metal and partly green in colour). It is just hanging in the engine bay doesn't connect to anything. Not sure what this is if maybe this part has an issue or the wires going to it. I may be able to secure it in one position to get it to run but I would be risking it I guess with hitting a bump in the middle of nowhere...

I know the part, its a relay but not sure of its purpose. Get over to the VWKD Subaru conversion forum, there's more EJ knowledge & experience there.

Sounds like the fuel pump relay.

Thanks, I've booked an auto electrician to come and take a look and hopefully resolve it for me.
