CS to 1Y conversion, Alternator wiring

Post by Holliesdad »

I have just fitted a 1Y in my Autohomes Camper, It was originally a petrol but It had a 1.6 cs engine in it when I got it. The 1Y came out of a Caddy. On the original alternator there were three wires and three spade type terminals. A heavy red wire, a heavy black wire (these were connected to larger spade terminals) one of which is marked B+ and a lighter red/ blue wire much smaller terminal marked D+ . The new alternator only has one large terminal which is a threaded type for an eye type terminal (marked B+) and two small spade terminals marked D+ and W. I checked and the two large spade terminals on the old alternator seem to be connected (no resistance when an amp meter is put across them). I can't find any reference to the red/blue wire in any wiring diagrams nor can I find any reference to the black one. I connected the heavy black and red wires to the B+ and the red/blue one to the D+ (this is the one to the dash/ charging light I'm told) This is more or less how they were connected on the old alternator. there is also another small terminal marked W which I'm told is for a rev counter (I haven't connected this to anything). The engine is running fine but its not charging. I'm wondering if anyone else wired one of these alternators and can give me some advice. there is another smaller threaded bolt/terminal? sticking out lower down on the alternator, Does anyone know if this is an earth? Could be that the alternator that came with the engine was dodgy to start with but I would just like to get confirmation that I have it wired correctly before getting it repaired or replaced. Any Help appreciated. :D

Thanks Matt, I sorted it, It was a dodgy alternator as suspected. Thank you for the offer of the phone call I haven't been on since and only saw it now. :ok
