which arm ball joint cover? 1983 d mot fail

Post by hefti »

so daisy my 1983 diesel hightop just failed her mot...
the note says offside front (top) suspension arm ball joint dust cover excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt. (2.4.g.2)
so i looked up the part on just kampers and could only find this JK Part Number: J14211
-this says fits upper and lower ball joints 67-79 but will only fit lower boots on t25's 80 - 92
and there doesnt seem to be a part for the top for 1980 onwards
so is this the right part?

The dust cover is the boot, you can just replace the boot.. if you could actually find one. With the upper ball joint you have to remove it from the van to do it, so kind makes sense to fit a whole new joint

Top ball joint is pretty easy to do....just make sure you clean out the allen key bolt holes so the allen key goes fully home. An allen key socket is preferred but whatever you use it needs to be good quality as you don't want to round the bolts off or twist the tool.
