1.6td turbo removal

ok so my studs have snapped on my turbo manifold, had a nightmare trying to get the special bolts undone that hold the turbo to the manifold finally found the right socket





ok so i got the bolts out at last, and released the turbo to reveal





so i am wondering whats the easiest way to get studs out, am thinking of welding a nut on the what's left of stud and unbolt them that way.

Heat on the bolts will help loosen them but if your really stuck milling them out on a milling machine will work, you can then re tap afterwards, an engineering shop can do this for you or if your near to Coalville Leicestershire i am happy to do it for you.

ok so today i started taking the broken studs out, it was a bit of a ball ache but i got there in the end,




i gave the manifold a clean down and re tapped the threads to clean all the crap out.



then with an oil stones started to flat the surface out so fingers crossed it sits nice and flush.



i dont have the studs yet so will have to wait until then.

Buy yourself one of those diamond sharpening plates - loads better than an oilstone that doesn't stay flat. I bought a very expensive one when they first came out and it is till in use 25 years+ later.
