whine

Post by tonytech »

OK, not really a request for technical info. More a request for sympathy :D

About 2 weeks ago I noticed that when cold my auto gearbox (Sympathy starts now) was sluggish moving off.
I topped up the ATF and carried on.
Last week after 30 mins at 60mph, I decelerated to hear a whine and vibration from the rear.
.. :(
.. :(
So.. I know auto boxes are like hens teeth, I know it will cost me an arm and a leg, I know I'm mad, but the van is so useful.

I thought the slow moving off was a standard fitment? I have a 1.9 Auto which has just started to whine under acceleration, still working fine at present , long may it continue to do so. I have seen a few of these transmissions on ebay over the last year as I was thinking of getting a spare but they have all been off 2.1's and the gearing is slightly different. Keep your eyes open for one. The good news is that they are bog-standard and simple to repair compared to modern auto's but still pricey!!!
