Caliper and retainer identity

Post by waltraud »

I have these calipers on my 83 dg. I noted that ATE and Girling calipers seem to have diffetent pad retainers/fitting. Can you identify the caliper make from pics and whether the pad fitting kit looks correct. Thanks. They are early ATE which use the type of retaining pin with a 'sprung' ring clip built into the end. These are 'drifted' into the calliper recess when fitted. These can be used multiple times and are usually changed when they are excessively corroded or the spring clips break.
Yours look perfectly OK
Pads look fairly worn....75% difficult to say exactly
Disc is also showing signs of wear but again need properly measuring and comparing against the minimum thickness of 11mm
Drift the pins from the 'outside' inwards.....refit the opposite way (from the inside, outwards)

This kit:

Girling calipers use brake pad pins that are held with 'G' clips
