New style radiator which pipe is which

Post by sciroccotune »

Hi all,

Put a new style rad on the van today (ball ache!)

Now does anyone know for sure which pipe goes to the pump and which pipe how's to the head?

There is one outlet directly down and another at an angle?

The pictures around the place are a bit contradictory

Thanks all :)

All in the Bentley!
From cyl head - angled, to pump - straight down.

Thank you, I had that picture but didn't have the manual to give a description and I wasn't sure of flow direction..

I have a sneaky suspicion I have them the wrong way round.

Hot water goes in (hottest water is in the cylinder head/s), cold water comes out.

Thanks guys :) actually the van seemed to be fine and everything got hot as it should and didn't overheat. I guess the water would flow both ways but I want to do it the correct way as VW did for best efficiency and such!

Will swap the pipes over tomorrow

er not quite... it gets hot at the bottom first because the thermo switch is there and the airflow is best..the coolant then goes into the top section where the big grill helps cool it even more.

Thanks Kev. Yep it did get hot at the top first which is what made me think. That said all the air was out and it was evenly hot but I accept not right. Only filled with water so will swap over tomorrow :)
