New coil.
Hi guys
I've been having a few problems with the van cutting out when hot, stalling etc and I 'think' it may be the coil breaking down. I'm gonna replace it and was wondering if this is the one I need? I have a 1.9 water cooled 1990 bus. http://www.justkampers.com/211-905-115- ... -1992.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyone used one of these? Are they ok quality wise??
Any help appreciated,
Cheers
Del

Re: New coil.
personally i'd get the right one from Brickwerks even if they are more expensie, they did two grey and green sticker with different impedance so the JK one is probably an approximation of whats right.
have a look at the old coil to see the sticker colour

Re: New coil.
It was pretty warm. It tends to happen when I have been running the van a bit. Its stalls and then will start up again and be ok for ages and then, out of nowhere, stall again.
I did 250 miles no bother then had to move it into new parking space and it just went all funny again. Ive looked at the Wiki, asked some advice and the two things Ive been told is possible vapour block or the coil is breaking down. I'm gonna try the coil.

Re: New coil.
Ok, will do. I'll take him for a spin and see if it happens again and check if the coil is hot.
Re: New coil.
There's also some test data in the Brickwerks listing:
Might be worth seeing if you can test those values, both hot and cold maybe. I checked mine when I was having a running problem, and saved myself the expense of the new coil.

Primary resistance [between terminals 1 & 15] - .5Ω to .8Ω
Secondary resistance [between terminals 1 & 4] - 2.4kΩ to 3.5kΩ

Re: New coil.
Ah, ok. I'll see if anyone has a meter and try that. Thanks.
Re: New coil.
Longer term, you should definitely get yourself a multimeter, as they're invaluable when diagnosing electrical problems. Even a cheap one (such as this or this) is worth having.

The wife just di 20 miles, no problems till it just stalled as she was reaching her destination. It was cold when I picked it up, stated fine and has driven back the 20 miles with no problems, although feels a little sluggish.. I looked at the coil after I stopped and its pretty hot but not so I couldn't touch it. I guess I need to get a multimeter on it??

Re: New coil.
JK say: "We obtain these from a number of different suppliers so manufacturers vary but tend to be either Bosch or Beru".
My guess is its the green coil, at least as far as tech spec. After that who knows. I have bought coils from JK in the past and they were ok, but up to you.
