Hi all,
Have just been chatting with Metalmick8y, he was saying he was dealing with someone on here who managed to buy a new JX cylinder head complete for around the £200 mark, So far I have managed to find a bare head (inc guides and seats) for a bit more than this. I'd be very if the person who found this deal could post some details up please?
I know Europart are doing OE quality heads delivered to your local branch for £485, fully built. Special order though.
Alternatively if anyone knows of anything else I'd be very interested?

Re: New JX TD Cylinder Heads
What is wrong with yours - I've got a JX block and cylinder head sitting outside my window as I type. I don't know what condition it is in - I would have to whip the head off and have a look.

Re: New JX TD Cylinder Heads
Hi there,
Miss-firing badly when hot, deep cracks between valves(nothing fallen out yet...), oil in the water and a good case of overheating!
No gasket problems and had cooling system refresh and oil cooler last year so Im needing to sort the head out.
Metalmick8y offered me a head with the usual valve cracks but good apart from that but these things seem to fail for a passtime so was trying to find a new one.
You could take a look if you don't mind OG?
Still thinking new is the safest way though as fitting a second hand head and you're in for valve shimming a new headset and bolts, possibly 6l of coolant and exhaust valves and maybe a skim and pressure test. Could be tempted by a known good uncracked head though.

Re: New JX TD Cylinder Heads
I took my head to Swadlincote diesel to have it pressure tested and skimmed, the owner (Shane) is very experienced and knows a great deal about these engines and told me that cracks between the valves means nothing and he can prove my head was ok by means of a pressure test and skin.
He also said the copy's are Spanish and are no where near as good as the original vw heads.

No large cracks - just the usual. There was no apparent problems when I took it out to put the 1Y in. It was being run without the turbo as it had replaced a CS.
There are two little areas of corrosion on the edge of the waterway like the last picture. Second pic looks blacker because it was taken at a different angle. There are a set of injectors and pump(condition unknown though as I haven't used them) also somewhere in the workshop. Camshaft looks good at first glance.

Cleaned up a little:

Re: New JX TD Cylinder Heads
Oldiebut Goodie,
Thanks so much for pulling your motor down, I have got a trade price on a new head now so I'm going to go with that now, I drained down the cooling system 3 times last year for various reasons and just want to nail the last of the issues! Costing me a fortune in antifreeze... Many thanks for your help though.
I'll post the price of a VEGE Bare head when I find it tomorrow if its any use to any one.
