Fitting a Mechanical Brake Light Switch

Post by bobby-gg »

I thought this could be handy info for some people

I wired in a replacement tow bar socket the other night and found that my brake lights weren't working, turns out after testing that both brake pressure switches on the maaster clylinder had failed - I'd only tested the lights last week when I finished my Tdi conversion because I'd had the rear loom out and they worked then

Anyway, I needed them back on asap, but I didn't have any spare pressure switches lying around so had to come up with something else

Found I had a brake pedal switch from an Ford Escort, knocked up a simple braket to hold it in the off position whilst the pedal is up and making sure it clears the steering column, used part of a spare bit of brake switch loom off a scrap van that plugs it the exsiting pressure swith connector and got them working again :ok

sorry I didn't take that many pictures

and, it works great!
