All good, then niggle...

Post by kennyjackett »

Just back form a lovely weekend in Oxfordshire. 'Brutus' didn't miss a beat in the 200 odd mile drive. for some reason, got back home, unloaded and went to move him to a better parking spot and he starts playing up - took a few times to start, a bit hiccupy, and not idling to we'll. I left him an hour and all seems fine again. I'm guessing this is the infamous 'hot start' scenario? Anything I can do? Is it a battery problem maybe?
And ideas folks, currently looking through the wiki...

Bah! Tried Brutus this morning, started fine, drove around the block all fine then started lurching a bit as if no fuel was getting through for a few seconds then alright again. Parked up, started up again and wouldn't idle. Revved him a bit and idled fine. It's firing up well enough, am thinking this might be a fuel pump breaking down? Like I say, this is on the back of 250 miles without any problems at all. :?

When I first bought my van, that had similar issues. It used to be difficult to start when hot, would sometimes cut out after a run, etc, etc. It had had a new pump fitted so I discounted that. I then checked everything else, filters, new fuel lines, and all seemed well.

Then I read about fuel starvation in the wiki and from other peoples posts on the matter, so I then removed the fuel pump and measured the operating rod and it was worn down, should be 100mm long I think [you need to check for yourself] if its too short, the pump cannot feed the carb properly. A new one fixed the problem. 8)

Hope that helps!
