Interesting you put this up Neil. Al and I are just about to launch a fridge and install kit package that gives you a very handy draw underneath. We obiously can add a Sterling option too as we are UK agents for them but good work I like it.

You should sell these front panels... in cream (ready for when I can afford the fridge to go with it )

The colour match is a vaguely accurate one. The laminated panels in the vans are all slightly different shades I guess due to the timescale since Westy built them, sun, heat etc. , all of these also being effected by where the laminate is in the van . The laminate is the closest match and was the one suggested on other threads. I ordered samples from 4 manufacturers and compared. Laminate is supplied in 10' x 4' sheets so buy the time you have laminated / edged the frame and popped in a door insert you still have most of it left for other ideas & repairs.

You don't need the one underneath on a compressor fridge, it is a great place to pop a pretty good draw that you can fit loads of stuff that you want to hide away on long trips. I can not comment on the door one as I have never been able to get what that is all about

The door had the vent on when we bought the van. The gas bottle was in there so i guess that it may be some french gas reg maybe.? But now we have lots of spaire laminate so making a new door should not be a problem.

The vent at the bottom of the original door would have been for the original Westy fridge (RM182/RM184) which would have been in the cupboard beforehand

We considered fitting a draw too the bottom of the unit which is a viable option, this was my initial thought using high quality self/soft closing runners and using a folded steel or alloy caucus, there are 2 reasons for using metal rather than ply, first is the internal dimension will be grater ( wider) second is the strength it would incorporate a locking pin so it could be used as secure box,

When I first shoe horned the fridge in I raised it as high as possible in the opening, this did 2 things that I was not happy with it made the fridge project further forward from the kitchen unit than I liked, it also altered the o/e lines of the unit. The top of the draw lined up with the top of the o/e fridge door

Both these issues have now been addressed although not 100% perfect it has worked out very well. As Jed said and peter has done by using the o/e bottom fridge vent it would make a very good place to mount a charger, you also maintain the look.

Maybe I'm being a bit picky....and what you have done looks very neat however, I would still like to have seen a matching 'door' with trim and not the front of the Waeco fridge.....like Westfalia fashioned for the original.
